Grand Rapids, Michigan developed a multi-pronged approach to increasing equitable health outcomes in historically low-income areas of Grand Rapids. The approach includes five key areas of work: home environment, food and movement, infant mortality, economic security, and a large-scale affordable housing development. They are a part of Invest Health Field Building.
During their Invest Health Field Building year, Grand Rapids seeks to build a pipeline of diverse projects including affordable housing, a community center, childcare center, and healthy food retail markets. They also plan to take steps to impact the community investment system by exploring a loan guarantee fund, improving the city planning process with the health in all policies lens, and find and leverage small project capital opportunities.
