A team of community groups from Dundalk has received a $60,000 grant to help address health disparities, poverty and economic instability.
The money was awarded by the Reinvestment Fund and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation as part of a new initiative called Invest Health. Under the program, the groups will look at ways to improve low-income communities.
Members of The Dundalk Invest Health team include: Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, Dundalk Renaissance Corporation, Dundalk Chamber of Commerce, Greater Dundalk Community Council and Dundalk Youth Services Center.
Dundalk was selected from more than 180 teams from 170 communities with populations between 50,000 and 400,000.
The team’s projects will pursue various goals including reducing the concentration of poverty and the number of transient residents, and increasing access to mental health and substance abuse treatment. Examples could include working to connect residents with critical support services, employment and educational opportunities, instituting a rental housing stabilization program and community beautification projects, according to a release about the plan.
