Iowa City, the University of Iowa and some local community developers will participate in Invest Health.

The nation-wide program, in which leaders from mid-sized U.S. cities aid low-income communities,improves health through access to affordable housing, places to play and exercise and good jobs.

Iowa City is one of 50 mid-sized cities selected of the 170 cities and 180 teams that applied.

The team, which consists of representatives from U of I, the Housing Fellowship, the City of Iowa City and Iowa City’s City Council, will receive a grant of $60,000 to help reduce asthma, depression and behavioral health concerns in children and adults in low income homes.

The Iowa City team will consider a wide range of ideas to support the projects.
