Roanoke is taking part in a new health program.
The city has been chosen by the Reinvestment Fund and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to participate in the Invest Health initiative.
The program hopes to change how local leaders work together to improve the living conditions for residents in low-income communities, with a focus on access to safe and affordable housing, places to play and exercise, and quality jobs.
Roanoke College, the City of Roanoke, Freedom First Credit Union, United Way of the Roanoke Valley, and LEAP for Local Foods are collaborating for the initiative.
Specifically, the group plans to look into redeveloping parts of Northwest Roanoke.
The team will have access to advisers and coaches, along with a $60,000 grant to accomplish its goal.
